I visited Latittude N22‘s Open Studios over in Chai Wan, HK Island.

I first came across Latitude N22 at Paris’ Maison et Objet last year and instantly fell in love with their work. Taking some aspects of the Chinese traditional ceramic styles and taking it to the modern world. Such as their ‘Ripple’ collection; made of Porcelain from Jingdezhen, I love the print design in the Chinese blue colour often seen on traditional rice bowls and plates.

Their other sister company; Julie Progin & Jesse McLin showcased ‘Curio’ a collection of porcelain experimentation. As a fellow ceramicist who also loves to experiment and who designs by process; it was a fabulous collection of objects!

For lunch we went to ‘CHAIWANESE‘ in a factory warehouse (love the name)!
On our way up to the 13th Floor in an industrial elevator, it didn’t seem there was going to be anything resembling a Cafe. The cafe reminded me of the east London trendy cafes, but with a view of Chai Wan’s industrial buildings and ocean. Their steel tables and chairs were for sale with photo artworks of portraits in the style of Arcimboldo. Good food, mainly western – sandwhichs, bagels, and salads.
There was a newly opened ‘Special Coffee’ corner where coffee connoisseurs can enjoy the perfect cup of coffee and buy special brewing equipment.
